Ceiling Fan Size Guide
The right fan size depends on your room's area. A fan that's too small won't move enough air; one that's too large overwhelms the space. Use this chart:
Fan diameter by room size
| Room area | Typical rooms | Recommended fan size | Vanelum model |
|---|---|---|---|
| Up to 75 sq ft (≈ 7 m²) | Small bedroom, study nook, hallway | 29–36 in | Scandi 42" (compact option) |
| 75–145 sq ft (7–13 m²) | Bedroom, home office, kitchen | 36–44 in | Scandi 42", Heritage 42", Haven 42" |
| 145–225 sq ft (13–21 m²) | Master bedroom, living room, patio | 44–54 in | Scandi 52", Heritage 48"/52", Haven 52" |
| 225–400 sq ft (21–37 m²) | Large living room, open-plan space | 54–72 in | Aero 60", Heritage 60", Grand 72" |
| Over 400 sq ft (37 m²+) | Great room, hospitality space | 72 in or multiple fans | Grand 72" |
Ceiling height & downrod
| Ceiling height | Recommended mounting |
|---|---|
| Under 8 ft (2.4 m) | Low-profile / shortest downrod |
| 8–9 ft (2.4–2.7 m) | Standard short downrod (4–6 in) |
| 9–10 ft (2.7–3 m) | Downrod 8–12 in |
| Over 10 ft (3 m+) | Longer downrod so blades sit 8–9 ft above the floor |
Rule of thumb: blades should hang 8–9 ft above the floor for the best airflow, and never lower than 7 ft (2.1 m). Keep blade tips at least 18 in (45 cm) from walls and sloped surfaces.
Quick checklist before you order
- Measure your room's length × width to get the area.
- Measure ceiling height to choose the right downrod.
- Sloped ceiling? Note the pitch — you may need an angled adapter.
- Outdoor space? Choose a covered-outdoor model (Haven or Heritage).
